it is estimated that 40 million Americans have primary aldosteronism resulting in hypertension. Of these 1/3 are curable with surgery. The role of the interventional radiologist in adrenal vein sampling as well as innovative approaches to adrenal causes of hypertension like embolization or ablation. Hyperparathyroidism causes significant alterations in calcium metabolism. While most patients are treated surgically, sampling can reveal accessory parathyroid glands in the mediastinum that are amenable to embolization that can cure patients. This session will give an in-depth look at the IR's role in primary aldosteronism and hyperparathyroidism. We will also discuss another intersection of IR and the endocrine world, specifically in regards to management of hypertension during adrenal ablation.
