Spine Interventions: Benign and Malignant Therapies

This course will provide an overview of the interventional management of painful benign and malignant conditions of the spine and axial skeleton, including pathologic fractures and degenerative causes of chronic low back pain. We will review interventional techniques related to vertebral augmentation, tumor and nerve ablation, SI joint fusion, spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pumps. We will explore the existing evidence and literature around these topics while emphasizing practical aspects to help the learner best implement these therapies within their practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Diagnose and evaluate painful benign and malignant conditions of the spine and axial skeleton using imaging and clinical assessments.
  • Describe state-of-the-art interventional techniques to treat painful conditions of the spine and pelvis such as malignant and osteoporotic pathologic fractures, chronic axial back pain, and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
  • Understand and apply evidence-based principles to the interventional management of painful benign and malignant conditions of the spine and axial skeleton.
