198 - The X-iest Radiologists: A Social Media Analysis of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Influencers

Purpose: Social media influence has been studied in many medical specialties {1-10}, but previous methodologies are no longer supported, and little information exists on Interventional Radiologists (IRs). A contemporary analysis of the most influential IR and diagnostic radiologists (DRs) on X is presented.

Materials and Methods: This study was IRB exempt. To identify IRs and DRs on X, a third-party keyword search of shared content, description in bios or links, and profile statistics was performed to identify users. Keywords included “radiology”, “radiologist”, “diagnostic radiology”, “interventional radiology”, “IR”, “DR”, and “medical imaging”. Identified users were refined by inclusion criteria: status as an IR or DR, activity within 90 days, and most of the content being medically related. Influence was analyzed by relative value scores according to reach, engagement, propensity to disseminate information, and centrality (in-degree centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector centrality). Cumulative influence scores were compiled, and those with the highest relative value scores were given a final ranking. Additional demographic information, practice type/location and h-index were gathered about X users with the top 100 influence ranking through publicly available methods, including websites, LinkedIn, Doximity, and SCOPUS.

Results: Of the most influential IRs, 92% are male, 91% are attendings, and 75% work in academia. Of the most influential DRs, 73% are male, 95% are attendings, and 82% work in academia. 91% of the IRs practiced general IR (91%). The most common sub-specialties in DR influencers are neuroradiology (25%), general diagnostic (20%), and musculoskeletal (17%). For IR, Emory and Mount Sinai are the most well-represented institutions (n=4 each), while Emory, University of Pennsylvania, and NYU (n=5 each) are the most represented in DR. The most common locations for private practice for IR were Florida (5/25) followed by Virginia and North Carolina (2/25 each); for DR, locations for private practice did not overlap. The top IR influencers’ h-index ranged from 0-73 with a median of 10 (SD 14.6). The top DR influencers’ h-index ranged from 0-113 with a median of 11 (SD 17.0). No correlation was present between X influence and h-index for IR or DR. Comparing IR and DR, the male majority in IR is significantly higher than that in DR (p=0.0004).

Conclusion: Overall, a minority of IR and DR influencers were women, with a larger male majority in IR. No correlation between academic productivity and influence rank existed despite most of the influencers working in academia.
