Intern Year: Was It Worth It? – a Conversation About Creating a Standardized PGY-1 Interventional Radiology Curriculum to Maximize the Educational Value of Internship

Description of the session: Interventional radiology training lasts six years, but many programs are advanced and do not fully control their interns’ curricula. Even categorical programs have variable oversight of their PGY-1s’ rotations. Residents therefore complete internships of variable educational value, and many desire earlier exposure to IR and DR. Recently, many previously advanced position specialties like anesthesiology, ophthalmology, and urology have reclaimed governance of their internship curricula and transitioned to standardized categorical training models. Should IR do the same?
