Bruce J. Tromberg, PhD is the Director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he oversees a portfolio of research programs focused on developing, translating, and commercializing engineering, physical science, and computational technologies in biology and medicine.  In addition, he leads NIBIB’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx Tech) program, a $1.7 billion initiative to increase SARS-COV-2 testing capacity and performance. His laboratory, the Section on Biomedical Optics (SBO) in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), develops portable, bedside, non-contact, and wearable technologies for quantitative sensing and imaging of tissue composition and metabolism.

Prior to joining NIH in January 2019, he was a professor of biomedical engineering and surgery at the University of California, Irvine (UCI).  During this time he served as director of the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic (BLIMC) (2003-2018) and the Laser Microbeam and Medical Program (LAMMP), an NIH National Biomedical Technology Center at the BLIMC (1997-2018).

Dr. Tromberg specializes in the development of optics and photonics technologies for biomedical imaging and therapy. He has co-authored more than 450 publications and holds 25 patents in new technology development as well as bench-to-bedside clinical translation, validation, and commercialization of devices.  He has trained more than 80 students and fellows, is co-founder of the biophotonics company, Modulim, Inc, and has served on numerous advisory boards in academia, industry, government, and private foundations.

Dr. Tromberg received his undergraduate training in chemistry from Vanderbilt University (1979) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Tennessee (1988) where he was a U.S. Department of Energy/Oak Ridge Associated Universities Fellow at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a Hewitt Foundation Photomedicine Fellow at the BLIMC and joined the UC Irvine faculty in 1990. 

Recent honors and awards include election to the 2022 class of National Academy of Medicine.  Other recognition includes the R&D 100 award, the Michael S. Feld Biophotonics Award from The Optical Society (OSA), the Britton Chance Biomedical Optics Award from the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE), the Horace Furumoto Innovator Award from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), and is a Fellow of the OSA, SPIE, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers (AIMBE), and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

Raghu Kolluri
, MD, Dr. Raghu Kolluri, MD, serves as the System Medical Director of Vascular Medicine at OhioHealth, overseeing noninvasive vascular labs and the medicine program. Alongside his role, he's an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine at Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, actively involved in medical education.

Previously presiding as the President of the Society for Vascular Medicine, Dr. Kolluri currently leads as President of The VIVA Foundation. He holds positions on the boards of the American Vein and Lymphatic Society and The Intersocietal Accreditation Council – Vascular Testing.

As a faculty member, he actively contributes to national and international conferences and plays a key role in multiple clinical trials focusing on vascular diseases and devices. Dr. Kolluri's contributions to medical literature include numerous scientific abstracts, guidelines, book chapters, original clinical research, and other peer-reviewed manuscripts.

He was recognized as a Master of the Society for Vascular Medicine. Dr. Kolluri also holds fellowships with the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, and the American Heart Association. Additionally, he serves as the President of Syntropic Core Lab.

Daniel Sze
, MD, PhD, Professor, Interventional Radiology, Stanford University Medical Center, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology is double majored in biochemistry and studio arts at Harvard. After a stint as a
graphic designer and medical illustrator, he went on to complete an MD and PhD in Biophysics at Stanford, internship at California Pacific Medical Center, residency at UCSF, and fellowship at Stanford, where he joined the faculty. His clinical and research interests include interventional oncology, portal hypertension, venous intervention, and aortic dissections and aneurysms. Since 2020, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, striving to elevate the scientific rigor and quality of the visual presentation.

Ifechi Ukeh, MD is a board certified Vascular and Interventional Radiologist (VIR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she currently serves as the Deputy Director of Interventional Radiology. She earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine where she also completed radiology residency and VIR fellowship. 

Before joining the NIH, she was Assistant Professor in Interventional Radiology at the University of Maryland Medical System and served as Director of VIR at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. She also served as Associate Program Director for the VIR Residency, Course Director for the VIR Medical Student Clerkship, and Faculty Advisor for the VIR Interest Group at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  She has a passion for education and mentorship and truly believes in passing on the “baton of knowledge.” 

Dr. Ukeh’s clinical and research interests are in portal hypertension interventions, women’s health interventions, and venous thromboembolic disease management. Her patient care philosophy is to provide high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care.  She takes a special interest in providing IR services to underserved populations and investigating health care disparities. She feels honored to play a role in patients' care through interventional radiology.

Bradford Wood, MD is the Director, NIH Center for Interventional Oncology, Chief, Interventional Radiology Section, a multi-disciplinary team (NIH Center for Interventional Oncology) that develops and translates devices, software, and navigation approaches for cancer patients via novel local and regional minimally-invasive image-guided therapies..earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Virginia, an internship in internal medicine, and residency in radiology at Georgetown University, where he was Chief Resident.

Dr. Wood is the founding Director of the NIH Center for Interventional Oncology, which translates technologies and paradigms for first-in-human treatments for cancer and cultivates interventional radiology applications within a multi-disciplinary framework, to apply biomedical engineering to meet real-life unmet clinical needs. His team's achievements include helping to pioneer several technologies from concept to bench to patient, and was “first- -in-human” for the following device/drug combinations: prostate cancer MRI/TRUS fusion biopsy and ablation, image-able iodinated drug eluting beads for chemoembolization of liver tumors, kidney cancer ablation, adrenal cancer ablation, heat-deployed nanoparticle chemotherapy with thermal ablation for liver cancer, electromagnetic tracking for fusion of ultrasound to CT, MR, and PET, and fusion for biopsy and ablation.

His team's research relies upon multi-disciplinary team science within multiple institutes and international public-private partnerships. His team has mentored hundreds of students, fellows, physicians, nurses, and scientists. His teams have authored 50 patents, books on radiology and interventional urology, and co-authored more than 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts, with an H-index of 84, including JAMA, NEJM, Nature Communications, Science, Lancet, Blood, Chest, Cancer, JCO, CCR, JAMA Oncology, Hepatology, Medical Physics, and Scientific Reports.

Dr. Wood has practiced Interventional Radiology at NIH for decades, was Acting Co-Director of Radiology, and Acting Director of the Molecular Imaging Lab in the late 2000’s. He holds appointments in the NIH Clinical Center, the National Cancer Institute, Urological Oncology Branch, NIBIB, and is Adjunct Prof in Biomedical Engineering at the Univ Maryland.

He has received the NIH Director's Awards, NIH Clinical Center Director's Awards, NIH Clinical Center CEO Awards, NIH Bench to Bedside Awards, NIH OD Honor Award, NCI Research Highlights Award, and has co-authored ~ 600 peer-reviewed papers (H-Index = 99) and several books.
