Janice Newsome
Janice M. Newsome, MD, FSIR – 2024 Women in IR Champion Award recipient

Dr. Janice Newsome's academic and professional career is marked by rigorous scholarship and significant contributions to the field of interventional radiology. Born in Jamaica, West Indies, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, during her teenage years to advance her education. She completed an accelerated BS/MD program through the City University of New York and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Subsequently, she undertook her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Medical College of Virginia, culminating with a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the renowned Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. As a board-certified Interventional and Diagnostic Radiologist, Dr. Newsome, a dedicated wife and mother, transitioned from almost fifteen years of private practice in Virginia to academic medicine. In 2015, she joined the Emory University School of Medicine, where her passion for teaching thrived. She has since held several leadership roles, including Emory University Midtown Hospital Site Director and IR Fellowship Associate Program Director. From 2018 to 2022, as the Chief/Division Director of Interventional Radiology at Emory and Grady Health System, she led pioneering work in treatments and educational technologies.

Shikha Jain, MD, is a board-certified hematology and oncology physician. She is a tenured associate professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Illinois in Chicago. She is the Director of Communications Strategies in Medicine and the Associate Director of Oncology Communication and Digital Innovation for the University of Illinois Cancer Center.  Dr. Jain is the founder and President of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Women in Medicine® and founder and chair of the Women in Medicine Summit. She is the CEO and Co-Founder of the action, advocacy, and amplification organization IMPACT. Dr. Jain was named one of Medscapes 25 Rising Stars in Medicine in 2020, one of Modern Healthcare's Top 25 Emerging Leaders in 2019, and was also awarded the Rising Star award by the LEAD Oncology Conference in 2019.

All SIR members should plan to attend this annual business meeting on Tuesday morning. Members' opinions and concerns regarding the future of the field of interventional radiology and the future of the society may presented and discussed at this time. Please visit the members section of the SIR website, www.sirweb.org, 30 days prior to the meeting to review the agenda, or pick up a copy at the door just prior to the business meeting. SIR members only.
